Exciting times are ahead for Aspray Chester franchisee, Iain Speedie, who has recently signed as the title sponsor for the fast-paced ice hockey team, Deeside Dragons.

Iain joined Aspray in June 2020 during the height of the pandemic covering the Chester region and into North Wales. Now going into his third year of trading, Iain was keen to get his business involved with the local community.

Iain said: “When I did my initial research into the territory, I looked at potential sponsorship opportunities for strong local community teams, and after I signed my agreement I made contact with The Dragons ice hockey team, possibly after I had spoken to John Strange of Aspray Glasgow West! The pandemic was in full flow and as their rink was used as a Nightingale Hospital, and then a vaccination centre, they have missed two seasons and are now due to return in the autumn.”

Now the club is gearing up for the new season, Iain is excited to be a part of their big comeback!

Be More Dragon

With the ice rink out of commission for almost two years, renovations are underway at Deeside Ice Rink to get it game ready for the team.

Even more exciting is the team’s acceptance into the National Ice Hockey League’s Division One North. Their new coaching team, led by Mike Clancy, head coach of the gold medal-winning GB women’s team, are busy signing players for the upcoming season, with the team shaping up to be a strong contender in the league.

Latest signing, Petr Valusiak, recently recorded 24 goals and 56 points in 27 games playing for the Blackburn Hawks. Matt Wainwright and James Parsons are also recent signings for the club.
