On Saturday 20th July our Head of Operations Julie joined Team Academy owned by Rachel Haslam (some of you may remember Rachel from the National Conference) and took part in a spot of Dragon Boat racing to raise money for charity. Whilst the event itself was very competitive, the sole aim of the event was to raise as much money as possible for Rosemere Cancer Foundation. Team Academy never loses an opportunity to promote and support the work of the Rosemere Cancer Foundation and when they offered Julie a rowing place she jumped at the chance.
The event was held at Preston Docks with races throughout the day and Team Academy came 4th out of 19 teams with only 2 seconds separating the top 4 places…not bad considering the winners had won the competition for the last 11 years and this was only Team Academy’s 2nd year.
Julie says “I was new to Dragon Boat Racing so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I did get very wet, however the weather was great so I soon dried off!! It was amazing to be part of the 20 strong crew and more importantly, a number of charities benefited from the event. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience (except for smelling of Preston Docks) and I’ll be training for the next Dragon Boat race through the winter as we want to win it in 2014!!”
We would like to congratulate all of Team Academy on their fantastic achievement and are looking forward to hearing more from them in the future. Watch this Space!
